Did you know, that John Boorman was actually approached to direct The Exorcist? Boorman was approached but declined because he felt story was "too cruel towards children." He later went on to direct the god awful sequel The Exorcist II: The Heretic. Those are just some of the facts I bet you didn't know about The Exorcist. New Horror Web Series Comes With A Dark New Take On The Apocalypse

A new web series is set to take off called In The Valley Of Ashes and it shows great promise in delivering something new and realistic.
We caught up with Zach Ramelan to talk about his company REC Films and what this new series is all about.

Horror Connection: Have you filmed the entire series yet? Are you guys still trying to get funding?

Zach Ramelan: "So right now we just shot the first episode as a money maker and were gonna release it in about a week and a half. Then were going to open up an indiegogo page so we have money for our next four episodes." 

HC: Where are you going to release this film?


Zach Ramelan: "The mini series will be posted up on Joshua Chislett Films Youtube page but you can follow us on Facebook, In The Valley of Ashes web series on Facebook, you can like it. All the updates will be published on that page." 

HC: Where was this series shot?

Zach Ramelan: "We shot in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and yeah the first few episodes will be shot between Guelph and Kitchener, but were hoping to start shooting in Brantford and other places in Ontario. Which is gonna be exciting." 

HC: What makes this series different. We have seen a post apocalyptic world before, we have seen people trying to survive it, what makes this series stand out?

Zach Ramelan: "I think in this series we're trying to develop the characters. I think it's more of the bitter sweet story, it's a little bit more realistic then the average post apocalyptic story has, I mean a lot of em have a happy ending and a romantic story going in. [In The Valley Of Ashes] is very dark, it's very serious and it's very real. That's the vibe were going for. We want that sleek Hollywood look but we want to give it that indie flare and I think we achieved that through our cinematogarphy."

REMAKES: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UNGODLY AWFUL (Part 1)

Alright lets face it, remakes aren't going away anytime soon. 

They just make too much money to warrant them not being an easy cash in for studios. Original ideas always run that risk of not making those glorious dolla' dolla' bills for the studio execs, and the easiest way in the film industry to make a quick buck is to rehash an old idea, slather some new glossy effects all over it and beat that dead horse until it stops producing green.

Editorial: The Change in the Horror Industry

The horror industry is changing, it's going through a change of age. Wes Craven, John Carpenter and other noteworthy directors are getting up there in age and sadly wont be around in the next 30 years. So who's next ? who will take the torch? well, we have already seen the change. Directors like Ti West (The House of The Devil, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever) Adam Green (Hatchet series, Frozen, Holliston) and Adam Wingard (V/H/S, S-V/H/S, Your Next) along with Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, Holliston) have already started there career in the horror industry and those are the people who show great potential to be the next great thing in horror. We have also seen the great Blumhosue Production rise up, being a powerful force since Paramount acquired the Paranormal Activity rights. With hits like the Paranormal Activity series, Insidious and Sinister all being a huge money maker as well as receiving acclaim from the horror industry. Jason Blum and his production company Blumhouse productions are driving force in this industry.
The next couple years though I expect we will see a movie break out like Paranormal Activity did to the public (Horror fans knew about way before Paramount picked it up) and the director of that particular movie break out as Oren Peli and Jason Blum did.

Fede Alvarez 

And i think this has already happened with director Fede Alvarez with his Evil Dead remake. With the announcement of Evil Dead II Fede Alvarez could rise up higher then Jason in terms of his films recognition. Hell, I'd give this guy The Exorcist rights cause i bet he would do one fucked up remake of it that would be welcomed by the horror junkies all over the world. Its going to be an interesting change in the industry that were gonna being seeing in the next 10 to 15 years.

I think every horror fan has seen The Evil Dead, and I think every horror fan knows that it’s an incredible piece of cheesy, gory, scary fun. And with the recent remake, more people may feel inclined to seek out the original and find out why this film is such a big deal to people who have already seen it.
